Scientific Advisor/Senior Medical Writer

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior medical writer with a wealth of experience who wishes to take their career to a new level.

Reporting to the creative director, the role is three-fold: in addition to medical writing, you will be expected to manage a small team of writers with a variety of skill sets and experience, as well as provide strategic and scientific insight into a variety of client brands.

Scientific abilities

Science degree a minimum, PhD preferable
Scientific background and robust, broad scientific understanding
Understands the vision / strategy of the brand
Uses their scientific knowledge to provide insights into client brand strategy and the concepts of creative teams

Communication

Excellent written English (vocabulary and grammar) and attention to detail
Conveys ideas and information in an effective and clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing, in individual and group situations
Is able to show evidence of experience in producing a variety of materials for the pharmaceutical industry, including detail aids (printed and digital), leavepieces, mailers, websites, training materials etc.
Comfortable with briefing colleagues on the background science of diseases and therapies, and keeps on top of core claims and references
Confident and takes the lead when presenting to clients, including during pitches
Provides constructive criticism to others’ work, and able to accept criticism
Forms good working relationships with colleagues and clients, and able to work as part of a team
Knows when to seek advice and delegate

Leadership qualities

Takes overall responsibility for the quality of the medical writing output of the agency
Jointly responsible with traffic for ensuring copy workload is appropriately resourced
Can evaluate creative and medical material and has the confidence to take a stand
Starts to build internal and external relationships in meetings and pitches
Is closely involved in the professional development of the medical writers within the agency

Technical abilities

Possesses an intimate knowledge of media formats (restrictions and opportunities)
Has working knowledge of the current digital opportunities available for healthcare brands
Experience with editorial software packages (e.g. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel)Knowledge of common regulations surrounding medical communications (e.g. ABPI code of practice) and the process of medical approval

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Possess a thorough understanding of client brand, the market environment, (key clinical studies) and marketing strategy.

Role : The Account Manager is the key member of the account team responsible for client liaison and progressing of work within the agency and through external suppliers.

The role plays a central part in making sure that work undertaken for clients is completed on time, on budget and to the high standard that our clients expect.

Responsibilities include:
1) Client liaison
Develop an understanding of the client's products and market.
Develop an understanding of the client's strategic goals and marketing plans.
Develop good relationships with marketing and key sales personnel.
Attend all client briefing and follow-up meetings.
Take straightforward individual (not campaign) briefs.
Ensure clients understanding and approval is obtained at each stage of a project, including providing written contact reports within three days of each meeting.

2) Costings/invoicing

Ensure any substantial variation from the quote is explained to the client and a re-cost provided.

Booking jobs into the studio/new media team in a timely manner and ensuring they are completed on schedule.
Provide appropriate levels of briefing, depending upon complexity of job.

Liase with client, take changes as necessary and progress through studio.
Ensuring signed approval obtained from client prior to sending to print or final upload/CD production.

4) Market research
Occasional involvement with market research will involve such tasks as:
Telephone recruitment of focus group participants.
Attendance at groups and transcription of key information.
Preparation of initial analysis under guidance of Account Director.

5) New business
Look for opportunities to develop and deliver profitable new business through existing accounts
Participate in new business prospecting under the direction of the Commercial Director
